An anonymous donation is helping ‘raise the curtain’ on careers in the theatre for UQ Drama students allowing them to gain professional experience with Queensland Theatre (QT).
The donation-facilitated partnership between UQ and QT enables a select group of high-achieving students to be placed full-time at the company and to put their passion for the arts into practice. Current student, Georgia Lynas is one of the first to be placed and is excited to have the opportunity to produce campaign material
“This experience has really opened my eyes to the employment possibilities within a theatre company and how the skills that I’ve gained at university can be transferred in the workforce,” she said.
“These opportunities give students the chance to showcase their talents to employers while also developing and gaining skills that are hard to obtain through University classes alone.”
“I'd love for the donor to know what their generous donation has allowed me to do and achieve. It's been such a dream of mine to work within Queensland Theatre, and now this can be realised.”
Third year student Madelyn couple is researching how QT can make theatre more accessible in regional and rural communities.
“It is amazing to be in a position where I can make some sort of impact, one of the best things that has happened to me at UQ,” she said.
“It has opened me up to data, statistics and a whole new way of writing. It’s something I can show people when I graduate.”
Your gift provides additional opportunities for more students to live their dream of contributing to and building up the theatre and arts in Queensland.
