Professor Ian Frazer AC FRS
Head, Cancer Immunology Program
University of Queensland
Professor Ian Frazer AC FRS is one of the most recognised names in medicine and immunology worldwide.
He is best known for his work, alongside the late Dr Jian Zhou, as the co-creator, of the groundbreaking cervical cancer vaccines Gardasil® and Cervarix®.
The vaccines were created from innovative research conducted at UQ, that was supported by a generous donation from a Queensland family, and are now available in more than 130 countries.
Professor Frazer in conjunction with UQ waived royalties on the vaccine to ensure it could be administered throughout the developing world, to the people who needed it most.
He is a professor of UQ's Faculty of Medicine, Affiliate Professor at UQ's Diamantina Institute and Affiliate Professorial Research Fellow in UQ's Institute for Molecular Bioscience (IMB).
He teaches immunology to undergraduate and postgraduate students at UQ and together with his wife, Caroline, supports education, research and the Arts through the charitable Frazer Family Foundation.
